At FreeSkies, our vision was to make aerial data collection simple and accessible to everyone. We make collecting aerial data, whether that’s stunning pictures, epic video, or actionable insights for your business, easier than you can imagine. We believe that drones are incredibly powerful tools, but they are faced with a multitude of problems that are not technological in nature, they’re human. It’s about the simplicity and the user experience.
The CoPilot mobile app leveraged 3D maps for extremely simple and intuitive path planning. By connecting it to our web portal, users can manage and easily share their content while also gaining access to more complex path planning and post processing tools. Users have access to a services marketplace, project management tools, and CRM, allowing us to provide the best user experience from planning, to processing, all the way to delivery.

I started FreeSkies as a project during a 54 hour Start-up Weekend event. After pitching the idea, we gained incredible support and placed in the competition, receiving space at the University of Illinois Research Park as well as some funding and access to local Venture Capitalists. Since then, we’ve moved to the Bay Area, worked with Lightspeed Venture Partners and DJI, and released our first product, the FreeSkies CoPilot.
